The Choice of Marriage: A Dream
How many times have you heard your family, friends, or random neighbours talking about a rather unfortunate boy or girl, in a small village or a big, bustling city, getting threatened, beaten up, or right out thrown out of their home just for expressing desire to marry someone they love? Even though it might be true that parents will always want the best for their child, but sometimes the will of parents becomes too much an overbearing burden for their children.
It so happens, that caste and religion are two very important factors for the Indian society when it comes to marriage. Everyone wants their children to marry into families that belong to their ‘gotra’, just because it would kill their supposed honour in the society if their child marries a man or woman from a lower caste. Every religion speaks of spreading love, but our society, like blatant hypocrites, openly defy the teachings of religion, of education, of globalization, and of the innocence of pure love.
If we look at the global scenario, marriage is becoming more of an individual affair, more of an individual choice, and not that of the family. It is so in most educated families living in big cities as well, but most of India still remains dominated by the caste system, we are still slaves to an archaic and outdated system, and the choice of whom to marry only strengthens the objective of the government and of the leaders that brought us independence – to eradicate the caste system.
So, dear fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, and all other possible relatives of sons and daughters who had to face scrutiny, endless pain, the wrath of loved ones, just to finally fall into a silent trance, here is an open letter to all of you, here is a piece of my mind for everyone who thinks that abandoning their children, leaving them alone at a crucial point in their lives is right, just because they married someone of their own choice; or in the Indian context, outside the caste. That spilling tears on your own threshold is some sort of restoration for your respect and obnoxious ego.
An Avenger
“What you sow, you shall reap”. You do good things and good things happen to you, you choose bad way, you end up badly. Everyone will have an enemy in their life. It might be a person from the same sex or even at it will be an opposite sex. Either way we have that mind of taking revenge on them. This is how a typical man would think, to take revenge.
In this story, the husband wants to take revenge on his wife. He had caught his wife red hand with another person. Anyone at that position would have done the same thing, thinking to avenge them. It’s very hard for a person who is perfect in everything to see some things happening imperfect. For example if there is a person who keeps things always clean, would never like to be with someone who is a big mess. Probably he would not marry someone who is of that kind also. He would choose a perfect wife for him. That’s how life runs.
Well, today the things have changed a lot. It’s a give and take policy happening in these days. You like someone, you are with them, you then don’t like them, and you then leave them. That is what happening in these days. People are really out of their minds. They don’t have any seriousness in life. They are born just to enjoy. Well these days it’s surprising to see that even woman do the same. They too follow all the bad things that men are doing. This is why they were asking for equal rights I guess.
Once you are married, you are no longer two. After that you both are one. You need to share each and everything among yourself, you need to eliminate the weakness and have to accept each other. Even if one is wrong, it must solved by the other instead of ignoring and hating and finally searching for another.
Maybe the society we live in teaches us to do so. But we must use our common sense. We need to think before we do something. In the story it ends by telling that the blame is on the society. Even the husband has to be blamed. The husband must always have an eye on his wife. He has the right to ask her questions. If he was so I don’t think that his wife would have gone for another man.
Okay, also taking revenge on someone would not solve the problem; instead talk to that person with love. Love is the solution of any problem. If we start spreading love we need no army, we need no police we need no security. Stop fighting spread LOVE.
As One Listens to the Rain
There is a very special thing about this poem; you have to notice even the little things. These little things can be the most beautiful things that you would have not thought of. We see the nature every time but we never admire them. There is a difference between seeing and admiring. When you admire the nature, you see beyond your sight. You feel something that you never would have felt.
When you are in love, even the small normal things that your lover does would make you feel special. It is because you admire them. You will see them every day but still every day you will feel special seeing them. Every day you can see something new in them. You will feel that every day that they are becoming more beautiful. The same thing only happens when you admire the nature.
When you listen to the nature, they speak. They speak beyond languages. They give you goosebumps’. They give you a special feeling on the normal things that happen. It’s raining, nothing special about it. But when you listen to the rain, you will feel it special for sure.
The tone of the poem is very peaceful. It is calming and serene in feeling. It relaxes the reader. The reader gets a peace of mind. There is a repetition in the poem just to let the readers know that it is very important to listen.
